In most cases, brief treatment with sex steroids will be offered to a patient with constitutional delay in adolescence if severe psychosocial pressure leads to low self-esteem or worsening school performance. Every boy who is over fourteen years, and every girl who is over thirteen years, who has not gone into puberty does not necessarily require treatment. A three-month dose of low-dose sex steroids will cause some secondary sexual development to relieve the psychological pressure in selected patients.
